Screen Refresh Rate Test
Estimate how frequently your browser delivers animation frames and check for unusual variation. No downloads or sign-up required.
Run your test
Estimate display refresh cadence with a free browser-based frame test. See frame intervals and understand limitations.
Interpretation
This estimates visible animation frames using requestAnimationFrame. Browser throttling, display sync, power modes and workload affect results.
How to use this test
- Click Start while the tab is visible and keep the window active.
- Allow five seconds of sampling; avoid heavy background tasks.
- Compare the estimate to your operating system display settings.
- Retest after changing refresh-rate settings or connecting a different monitor.
What this can and cannot prove
requestAnimationFrame measures browser animation callback timing; it does not directly measure the monitor hardware or reliably detect all dropped frames. VRR, browser throttling and device load can change the estimate.
Compare results with your operating-system diagnostics or a second device when a fault is suspected.
Frequently asked questions
Is this the actual monitor refresh rate?
It is an estimate of browser-delivered frame cadence. Check your display settings for the configured refresh rate.
Why does the estimate show 60 Hz on a 144 Hz monitor?
The browser, operating system, power-saving mode, external display path or tab throttling can limit callbacks.
Can this detect every skipped frame?
No. Timing variation suggests uneven callbacks but cannot prove which frames reached the screen.
